  • Arthur Breitman: Tezos – A Self-Amending Crypto-Ledger

Tezos was created first and foremost to address a governance issue in decentralized cryptographic ledgers. It does so by allowing stakeholders to approve updates to the protocol, including the consensus algorithm, and the governance rule themselves. Tezos is written in OCaml (a functional programming language) and rely on Coq for advanced proof checking and formal verification. Source code will be opened and available later this year.

Arthur Breitman of "Tezos" gave this presentation on this new technology on Wednesday, August 31st at Monetas HQ (Zug – Switzerland)

    What’s New

NEW  Support for RokBox 2.0, use under Rendering “RokBox 2”, instead of “RokBox

NOTE: If you are upgrading from RokBox 1 and you are using the old RokBox syntax, such as {rokbox} or <a rel="rokbox" .., you can enable the Backward Compatibility from both the System and Content plug-in. Be aware that the Backward compatibility can dramatically slow down the loading of your site. It is highly suggested to convert the old syntax into the new one. Starting from cedphotofeed 2.6.3 you can use the Rendering “RokBox 2” and switch off the backward compatibility.

NEW  A new settings in the administrator panel “Force”. This setting is optional, default value is auto detect- If you use custom URL for your hosting library (like visuals.waltercedric.com instead of www.smugmug.com), you may want to force the library instead of letting cedPhotoFeed auto detect the right host based on URL. You can either set "Force" = "Yes" in administrator panel system wide or add this optional settings now in every mambot. Here is a axample of a custom URL that use SmugMug:

    {rss uri=http://www.darbym.com/hack/feed.mg?Type=nicknameRecentPhotos&Data=DarbyM&format=rss200 limit=3 force=Smugmug}

Concerning the size of pictures displayed when using Picasa

Concerning the size of pictures displayed when using Picasa, the max picture size returned by the RSS feed is height="265px" and width="512px", embedded thumbnails being of size

    1. height="38px" width="72px"
    2. height="75px" width="144px"
    3. height="149px" width="288px”

It is not in any way a limitation of cedPhotoFeed!

  • Photofeed version 1.1

78px-Smugmug_logo 22711-250px-picasa-logo.svg Flickr_logo Photofeed is a small content plugin for Joomla! 1.5 that allow you to inline a set of images from your favorite online gallery: Smugmug, Flickr, Picasa or any RSS feed in any article.

Ed Henderson (http://www.henderland.net/) has submitted me a patch today that correct and improve Photofeed by a huge margin. It has done such a great job that I deliver this version now. I plan to add in the next version Photofeed 1.2 full support for gallery2 (aka G2), don’t forget to request new features in the Smugmug forum support board

July 7, 2009 - List of fixes and enhancements from Ed Henderson

    Bug fixes

    1. Fixed malformed image URL (had double-quote at the end and not at the start so didn't display properly in lightbox)
    2. Fixed problem with "@" and single-quote in captions (this broke the php code)
    3. Fixed $library not being passed thru to rss_parse function (this caused the image to not be viewed via lightbox)

    Enhancements:

    1. Specify the thumbnail size in pixels
    2. Specify if square thumbnail or maintain aspect ratio (if not square then thumbnail size just specifies the height)
    3. Now recognize multiple {rss...} tags in a single article.
    4. Specify thumbnail size and square thumbnail in {rss... size=90 square=yes|no} tag to override system-wide defaults. Or if tag element left blank i.e. "ulimit=" then defaults to system default.
    5. Specify thumbnail border width in pixels
    6. Added special section in the code for Picasa so that viewing largest image (800px) could be possible.
    7. Added more verbiage to photofeed.xml to help with plugin usage.

    Future enhancements to do

    1. Recognize single and/or double quotes in {rss..} tag
    2. No order to tag elements - i.e. size=75 could come first in the {rss...} tag
    3. If tag element missing then just take default - at this time all tag elements must be in the tag to work
    4. Ability to choose size of image to view - now defaults to largest for Picasa.

Testing: Note that I have tested these changes on Picasa only.  I believe it will work with the other photo sites as I made changes to their code for any enhancements I added.

  • Podcast Blockchain Realism: Facts in a World of Fictions - Florian Glatz

    About the Speakers

Florian Glatz is a lawyer, researcher and software developer with a passion for Blockchain Technology. His legal background lies in intellectual property, competition and data protection law. As a researcher he has worked for the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition, the European University Institute and CNRS. Florian Glatz is also a web developer with over a decade of work experience. Now, he is focused on understanding and embedding blockchain technology in today's information society.

    The Topic:

Distributed Ledger Technology aka Blockchain is gaining recognition in both private and public sectors. The peer-to-peer technology promises to disintermediate, streamline and standardize processes across a wide range of industries and public service offerings. Although a key innovation of Blockchain Technology is the sophisticated level of self-governance it enables, the technology needs to be recognized by national and international laws and regulations to go from fringe to mainstream. At the same time, Blockchain-based applications and services need to incorporate an understanding of relevant legal norms into their codified rulesets.

How can we combine the empowering properties of distributed ledgers with the legal tools and frameworks our society has evolved?

Let's hear it from the view of a Lawyer.
