  • Finger fox.
    A Firefox extension that allows a workaround for the reader software to recognize Firefox as a valid fingerprint capable application. It has finally popup on the internet...
    directLink to the extension http://redoneill.free.fr/pub/fingerfox.xpi
    Site of the author translated to english
    Version is only 0.4 but it seems functionnal!
    Usage: click the "fingerfox" button in your bottom toolbar and then use your fingerprint wizard to have it fill that in, and it will launch the window automatically if you want.

  • This extension is call Fingerfox, it's an xpi file which should install small Text in your FF status bar so that you can click on it and show the Fingerfox popup.

    How it works:
    It simply copy all the forms element of the webpage shown in firefox into a popup which should be seen correctly by DigitalPersona. Note that once you are on the page you need to identify, you can either click on the Fingerfox text in the status bar or press the ALT-X key. For the moment it only works with text and password fields.

  • ff-beta3-robo-welcome

    I am running with Firefox 3.0 beta 4 since it is available (so since 2 weeks) and the progress made concerning memory management are so huge that you cannot start using it NOW, especially if you are always keeping Firefox open for hours or days. I am now able to say that Firefox is on par with my other favorite browser Opera 9.5, speed and rendering time are very close. I still prefer Opera through as I always keep 25 tabs open.

    It is time now for me to test the Beta 5!

    Firefox 3 Beta 5 is available in 45 languages as a public preview release intended for developer testing and community feedback. It includes new features as well as dramatic improvements to performance, memory usage and speed. You can download it HERE

    Why You should not use Firefox 3.0 Beta?

    • If you can not live without your favorite extension, note that Google toolbar is not compatible, but web developer is.
    • You can not start the old Firefox 2.x.x and the new Firefox 3.x at the same time, bookmark is shared

    For all developer out there reading my blog, I recommend You to read what the Firefox team has done to track down all memory leaks and reduce memory usage, this article is worth reading!

    Download Firefox Beta5 NOW:

  • Phishing is a type of online fraud that attempts to steal sensitive user information such as user names, passwords and credit card information. The attacks typically combine spam (an email telling You to logging to Your bank company for a false reason and providing You a false http link) and fraudulent webpages that look like legitimate sites (Your bank company for example).
    Netcraft toolbar can detect 7,000 phishing sites and block them, moreover it is displaying valuable informations like:  risk-rating, country, popularity....The toolbar exist for IE and now Firefox, download it HERE

  • Protecting Your Security and Privacy with Firefox
    Rising rates of identity theft and internet fraud mean that having a secure browser is more important than ever. For those interested in keeping their information safe, the good news is that Firefox has several important features that will help you stay secure. Find out how in this sample chapter.

    From the Book Firefox and Thunderbird Garage

    My internet page has under it's root directory http://www.waltercedric.com an index.html file which redirect You to Joomla http://www.waltercedric.com/Mambo/

    The following file has work since recently, under IE but suddenly stop 3 days ago...

    Content of index.html

    <META HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" content="0 ; /Mambo/index.php">

    </html>

    Firefox has no difficulties with the file above. After a quick Look at the W3C consortium for HTML normalisation, I found the following code

    Content of index.html (working)
    <html>

    <title></title>
    <META HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" content="1;URL=/Mambo/index.php">

    So to resume, a coding error, lazy standard and ME only testing under firefox...I apologize for inconvenience...and will try to avoid such situation in future.

  • it is not inusual for my firefox to eat more than 400Mb of RAM and this because I rarely closed it down and/or work with many windows at the same time. Memory leaks is a known problem and some action are currently taken by the developers...

    The Hack below will improve (but not fix the problem) by unloading Firefox as much as possible from memory and saving it to disk when you minimize its windows.

    1. Open Firefox and go to the Address Bar. And Type in the URL bar  about:config and then press Enter.
    2. Right Click in the page and select New -> Boolean.

      4. Now select True and then press Enter.
      5. Restart Firefox.

      This trick is also reversible and is not affecting speed or stability of mozilla Firefox.

      You can also reduce the number of pages saved for the BACK button (who need it today? with 8Mb bandwidth...) by affecting the key browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewers

      In Between I must also admit, that I now only use Firefox for development (thanks to the great list of plugins available: webtools, measureit, css editor, javascript debugger....). My choice is Opera 8.5 and this because I have always 50 windows open! :-)

    4. YSlow analyzes web pages and tells you why they're slow based on the rules for high performance web sites. YSlow is a Firefox add-on integrated with the popular Firebug web development tool. YSlowgives you:

      • Performance report card
      • HTTP/HTML summary
      • List of components in the page
      • Tools including JSLint

      Download HERE
      Visit also the homepage of the team behind this tool: Yahoo!'s Exceptional Performance Team

      You should not take too much time to guess that I am currently optimizing my homepage :-)
      Be careful, running this tool more than 5 times make my Firefox crash ;-)

      Some statistics:
      Some useful links
      Be careful! a lot of host get pretty low metering (just test your favorite internet site), but are still very fast-> this tools do not tell You their infrastructure: memcache server, multiple db server, multiple file server for static content and so on.
