I receive my new notebook yesterday, it replace my HP NX7000 (3 years old). The HP NX 9440 is showing impressive performances, especially when running eclipse and multiple aplication in the backgroung.
The specifications are as follow:
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7600 2.33 GHz 4 MB L2 cache 667 MHz front side bus
3 GB (667 MHz)  DDR2 SDRAM
NVIDIA Quadro FX 1500M graphics controller with 512 MB of dedicated video memory
100 GB (7200 rpm) SATA
LightScribe DVD+/-RW with Double Layer
17.0-inch WUXGA wide viewing angle
Dual pointing devices – Pointstick with three soft-touch buttons and Touchpad with scroll zone and three soft-touch buttons
Integrated Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet with HP Smart Power NIC Technology PCIe Controller (10/100/1000 NIC)
7.5 lb (3.4 kg)
Integrated 16-bit Sound Blaster Pro compatible audio
Integrated stereo speakers
Integrated directional microphone
External volume up and down, and mute buttons
Stereo headphone/line out
Stereo microphone in
1 Type I/II PC Card slot
1 Integrated Smart Card Reader
1 7-in-1 Media Reader
But there is some very strange technical choice, like
  • The position of all plugs, USB, VGA, network on both side which restrict mouse movements, a dubious decision!
  • The speaker are in front, below the case (pointing 45° into the ground) : crazy
  • On the back, you'll find the battery, very thin and without any mention of capacity!
  • The keyboard is one more time NOT standard (as on the HP NX7000), crazy layout of numpad.
On the plus side, the graphic card (GPU NVIDIA Quadro) is able to play full HD (1980 x 1080 or 1080p) in full screen without any glitches!  Except than that, you can read numerous reviews:

Ive put an impressive list of open source on it, thus limiting the total cost of licence ownership, the only commercial tools are: Microsoft Office because a lot of documents are floating around which can only be open in M$ Office, Symantec Antivirus, Groove network. The rest is made of the best open source tools:

My pc is nearly operationnal, so I will be able to finally deliver new version of Joomla! components

I win a Synology DS710+ & DX510 yesterday
I did win a Synology DS710+ & DX510 by filling out a survey, after having read an official tweet of Synology Inc.(http://twitter.com/Synology) about the contest 3 weeks ago. The funny part is that I bought a Synology DS1010+ (704CHF/692$) and 4TB of disk (280CHF/275$) at the same time… On the picture above, this is my current small datacenter :-) DS 408 has four disks of  1TB in RAID5, so a volume of 2.7TB since 2008 DS1010+ has two disks of …
