Samurai Shodown III has made its long awaited return...and this time... ...it's no upgrade... ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The Dreaded "demon". His name, Zankuro Minazuki. The evil Zankuro, from time immemorial, has indiscriminately attacked villages, slaughtering all in his way. Falling under his mighty blade, victims screamed in terror of the dreaded demon before drowning in an endless sea of blood. All stood impotent to his evil deeds. But then...In a distanct village, Zankuro failed to kill an infant. Some insist, perhaps the evil one could not kill him. The truth remains unknown. But from then on, Zankuro marked all swordsmen for slaughter. Years later...Twelve samurai and swordsmen begin their own quests. I heard from a guy who knows the brother of his sister's boyfriend's mother's father-in law, who said he caught a guy talking about knowing a few certain undisclosed rumours about SS3...here they are... --> THE BOSS? PLAYABLE? Yes way. See "How do I play as the boss?" --> KUROKO? PLAYABLE? Not yet. --> THE BLOOD CODE! WHAT IS IT? Currently, there isn't one for the cartridge version. However, on the CD version, you can get blood by choosing "Japan" from the options menu --> SLASH NAKORURU'S POW CAN BE DONE WHILE FLYING ON MAMAHAHA? No way. --> I HEARD THERE'S AN EASY WAY TO PERFORM THE POWER SPECIAL! Yes, but only on the CD version. In the options menu, select "Special", and while you are playing, simply press ABCD together to perform your power special. --> NAK AND RIMMY TALKING ABOUT SSRPG? Apparently, on the CD version of SS3, there are a few tracks at the end, not heard in the game. One is of Nakoruru and Rimururu, talking about the upcoming release of SSRPG. Now, who wants to translate it? ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Question: Who's new to SS3? ENTERING THE FRAY... NEW CHARACTERS: SHIZUMARU HISAME --> A young boy with amnesia with only the knowledge of his mother's dying scream...and a thirst for revenge... BASARA THE EXECUTIONER --> Killed by Zankurou, along with his lover. This character's hatred for the demon was so powerful, he rose from the dead to destroy that which Zankurou took away. GAIRA CAFFEINE --> Nicotine's grandson, a miscreant who has been booted out of the buddhist temple...still with fighting spirit in his heart, he is determined also to bring justice to this land by defeating Zankurou. RIMURURU --> Nakoruru's younger sister, who believes that the cause of the trouble stems from Amakusa Shiro Tokisada, the original villan of SS. Rimururu is animal-less...instead, controls the forces of nature to attack. AMAKUSA SHIRO TOKISADA --> The original villan of SS now returns as a playable character! Retaining many of his original attacks, Amakusa sees Zankurou flooding with powerful energy...energy that he wants to make his own. Question: Who is returning? OLD CHARACTERS: Returning to the fight this time are HAOHMARU, NAKORURU, GALFORD, SENRYO KYOSHIRO, TACHIBANA UKYO, KIBAGAMI GENJUROU, and HATTORI HANZO. OPTIONS GALORE... Samurai Shodown III is bursting with new game options to enhance the diversity that this series is famous for...and here's what you get: --> Character Mode: Now all the new and old characters have a "chivalry" (good) or "treachery" (evil) alignmnent. Selecting this will allow you to retain your favourite character's original abilities, or become enhanced, fighting with different attacks and special, significantly doubling the amount of character choices in the game. --> Level Select: Now, three levels of "difficulty" are added to the game; novice, intermediate, and advanced. By selecting the novice level, SS3 sets to less-damaging attacks, and the now famous, Capcom-like "auto-blocking" mode. Intermediate holds within it standard gameplay, and further yet, advanced offers extreme SS!: A fully charged POW meter at all times, and absolutely no blocking! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Question: How is the control of the players different in SS3? CONTROLLING THE PLAYERS... Play has been altered from that which we have become familiar with in Samurai I and II...now new features and options allow us to relearn all new techniques to become masterless samurai... --> Air Blocking: As it says: All characters can block moves in the air. --> Pre-Fight Maneuvering Before the fight begins, you can maneuver your characters into the proper distance, a la X-Men --> Costume Change: Every character now has FOUR different colours to choose from. When you are choosing Slash or Bust, press a or b for a different color. --> POW Charge: Pressing and holding ABC will temporarily enhance your pow for halfPOW strikes. --> Dodging: If a good distance from your opponent, you can dodge an attack by pressing AB. --> Sidestep: If close to your opponent, pressing AB will make your character step to the side, and behind your opponent! --> Guard Crush: You can now grab your opponent, and throw him/her off balance, to follow up with another attack. --> Hop Crush: If your opponent is crouching in defense, you can perform a Hop crush, a quick move that MUST be blocked high. --> No Weapon Breaking Power Specials Power specials no longer destroy the opponent's weapon, just knock it out of their hands. --> Catch Throw: Same as the previous SS's...while weaponless, you can catch your opponent's weapon, and throw them...except now in SS3, you can do it even WITH your weapon in hand... --> Items: The Runner is gone, but bombs and meat are still a part of the SS strategy; these items always have a chance at turning the tides of a fight ...except now, if a bomb is blocked, it will drop your guard and leave you open! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Question: How do I play as the boss? THE BOSS CODE... Zankurou. Playable. CONFIRMED. Here's how: It only works on a 1p vs. 2p game. Look at the character selection screen and link the faces to numbers like this: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 So 4 is Shizamaru. Put your quarter in. Press start. Move to 4. Wait a second, then move in the following order: 3-2-1-7-8-9-3-4-10-11-12-6-5-4 then press start, and when the timer reaches 3 seconds, press ABC to pick Zankurou. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Question: Is Kuroko still in SS3? KUROKO... Kuroko is, in fact, in the game, and is the fifth character you fight. When he challenges you, he morphs into your character, giving you a mirror match. He is nowhere near as hard to defeat as he was in SS2... The new rumour is that Kuroko is also playable...but we have yet to see... ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Question: What are the controls like in SS3? HAOHMARU "Duelling is my Raison D'etre!" THE SS1 TITLE SCREEN -- WIND: This is essentially based on the intro to Shodown I, where the narrator gives the laws of the samurai and Haohmaru slices the two lanterns with the lavender trees in the background. Now, however, we get to see the entire courtyard with gigantic lavender trees in the background and many lanterns adorning the stage both in the foreground and all over the background. The lanterns can be cut down by the players. During the desperation, the background becomes a dark violet aura with many layers of color and lavender leaves begin to fall like snow. Large branches of the trees hang in the foreground. CHARACTER POSES: SLASH- Character Select Screen: Lowers himself into a fighting stance, raises his sword in right hand parallel to the side of his face with his elbow up, cradles the right arm with left arm. Before Round One: Drinks his sake, spits it on the sword, and then swings his sword down to his side. 1st Win: Lowers himself into a fighting stance, raises his sword in right hand parallel to the side of his face with his elbow up, cradles the right arm with left arm. 2nd Win: The original pose from the previous two where he throws his sword up into the air, spins his scabbard, and then catches his sword. Now after throwing his sword, he turns his side to face the screen (instead of his back) when he catches his sword. Unarmed Victory: Adjusts the front of his top, then goes into a pose with one arm resting on one knee. Loss To Time: Drops to his knees, rests his head on one arm and rests his other arm on the hilt of his sword. Unarmed Loss to Time: Sits on the floor, both hands are resting on the ground. Stalemate: Turns his back and holds his sheath out to his side behind him. Dizzy: Gets up on his knees and supports his arms on his sword. BUST- Character Select Screen: Raises sword over his head and then swings it down. BAMBOO FOREST: Stage Description: This is a dense bamboo forest, with leaves blowing across the floor. Sunlight filters through the tops of the trees. During the desperation stage, the forest vanishes and is replaced by a thick green aura. Leafy bamboo branches hang down in the background and leaves flutter down from them. CHARACTER POSES: SLASH- Character Select Screen: Opens his umbrella, says something while spinning it around a few times, and then closes it. Before Round One: Adjusts his gloves and then picks up his umbrella. 1st Win: Straightens jacket, bows and says "Gomen" (sorry). 2nd Win: Runs his hands through his hair, nods his head briefly. Unarmed 2nd Victory: Pulls sword out, spins it around in front of him, then sheaths it while holding the sheath in front of him. Loss To Time: Falls to his knees on the ground, holding his head down. For Slash Nakoruru, the plant life is brown as in fall whereas it is green as in spring for Bust Nakoruru. Small butterflies and dragonflies can also be seen. Also the occasional leaf falls down the stage. During the desperation, the cliffs vanish and are replaced by a bright red aura and leaves drop down in the foreground. In the second round, Nakoruru and her two parents come out of the cottage and watch the fight. When Nakoruru first comes out, she is holding two rabbits but drops them in shock when she sees her sister fighting. For the rest of the match, Nakoruru is shaking her head while her father is running his hand over his beard. If Rimururu wins, Nakoruru smiles in relief and her mother begins clapping. If Rimururu loses Nakoruru drops to her knees in sorrow and her mother turns to comfort her as her father covers his face with his hand. During the desperation, the background vanishes and the characters fight in a fierce blizzard. In the second round, the tapestry flips over to become the picture of Kyoshiro brutally slaying someone, the butterflies become ethereal flame spirits, and the lanterns against the stage turn from yellow to blue. At the desperation, the background turns into the stage curtain that had hung above in the previous state. Ghosts fly by overhead and strange, transparent images flash against the curtains. Once one player has won, the tapestry in the background becomes chagnes again. It becomes a picture of Kyoshiro sitting on a stone ground with his naginata. If Kyoshiro loses, it changes to a pictures of Kyoshiro sitting with long tenticles coming out from someplace behind him.
