The Swiss Tagsatzung (; ; ) was the legislative and executive council of the Swiss confederacy from the beginnings until the formation of the Swiss federal state in 1848. It was a meeting of delegates of the individual cantons. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tagsatzung]
I am a very happy user of Joomla! tags from Phil Taylor. My only complaints is that it is still not part of Joomla!® core.
Joomla!® Tags is a Joomla Extension for adding tags to Joomla!® Content.

I have way too much article now on this site...I just can't find any articles anymore (except with Google). That's the right time to introduce tags!
Tags are used to store information about a document, image or other online content to help searching. Social networking web sites such as Flickr.com (photo-sharing) and del.icio.us (bookmark sharing) use member-created tags as a means of organizing and popularizing content.
Unfortunately Joomla! does not have this functionality in its core... but thanks to Joomla! extensible plugin architecture, many solutions are available:
The "oldest" and with famous Phil Taylor support, you pay for a premium component and a very good software. Only drawback: it is not open source and free as in beer.
Free open source Joomla! Tagging Solution. Powerful & Simple!
While editing, below the article text box, there is a new text field "insert tags" like in the picture:
A promising component with Ajax and nearly all functionality of joomla! Tags, it is for sure not as mature and still in alpha stage for both Joomla! 1.0 and Joomla! 1.5.x

So you can expect to enjoy tags on my site in a near future... as soon as I did test all 3 solutions on my test site.

cedTag provide a useful way to group related posts together and to quickly tell readers what a post is about. Tags also make it easier for people to find your content. Tags are similar to, but more specific than, Joomla categories.

I am currently checking all articles without tags, so far only 622 articles (on 1359 articles) have no tags at all...
For those, that want to list all articles having no tags, fire up your favorite SQL browser, and just execute:
select title from jos_content where id not in (SELECT contentid FROM jos_tag_category_map); This will return all articles without any tags.
I am slowly trying to change that. By the way, It seems more and more people browse my homepage again (50'000 per months) which is 1/10th of last year, but it goes up everyday. As always, no good content, no high page rank.
I will try to concentrate a bit on Joomla Comment development, and also publish some good articles that are waiting in my draft folder.
I came across Joomulus module a while ago (Joomulus at Joomla Extensions JED), it goes through your Joomla! articles content and create a tag cloud.
A tag cloud or word cloud (or weighted list in visual design) is a visual depiction of user-generated tags, or simply the word content of a site, used typically to describe the content of web sites. Tags are usually single words and are typically listed alphabetically, and the importance of a tag is shown with font size or color.
This is the solution you are looking for, and you should not need to read any further if you DO NOT USE Joomla! Tags from Phil Taylor.
But I am using a proprietary tagging solutions: Joomla Tags from Phil Taylor (http://www.joomla-tags.com)

I've bought yesterday a licence for Joomla! Tags at a bargain: 23 euro, and it has been activated since.
I use Joomla Tags to allow content classification by keywords (Tags), it will be used to create virtual categories to add content into, over coming Joomla's single section/category structure.
You can access it using in top menu (http://www.waltercedric.com/tags.html), this will show you the most popular/clicked/used tags...
Folksonomy (also known as collaborative tagging, social classification, social indexing, and social tagging) is the practice and method of collaboratively creating and managing tags to annotate and categorize content. In contrast to traditional subject indexing, metadata is generated not only by experts but also by creators and consumers of the content. Usually, freely chosen keywords are used instead of a controlled vocabulary. Folksonomy is a portmanteau of the words folk and taxonomy, hence a Folksonomy is a user generated taxonomy. [WikiPedia]
Not all 2000 articles are tagged...I can't just tag them all alone. That is why you are now able to tag articles yourself!
At the end of all articles, there is a small AJAX powered input box, that allow you to enter a set of tag corresponding to the articles. All submitted tags are reviewed and moderated by me of course.
I did invest in that plugin since a lot of persons (including me) have now issues to find the right articles in my homepage. Tagging may help to resolve that issue.
My only regret is that Meta Weblog or Movable XML-RPC API is not ready yet for submitting tags....
CedTag has been updated to version 2.5.5 and correct a lot of bugs and contains some nice new features.
CedTag is the continuation of the GPL component Joomla Tags (www.joomlatags.org), Most of the code if not all has been now rewritten according to the new standard of Joomla 2.5, the component has been greatly extended and most bugs have been removed. I will continue removing, refactoring existing codebase, in order to be able to add new features faster.
