The Apache software fundation has put a new project in it's incubator line: Harmony A free open source Java virtual machine and classes librairies!!! Right now it is only a thread, and a FAQ...an interesting discussion has start on Slashdot.org Purpose of this project is to create and use an open source, compatible implementation of J2SE "The Apache Software Foundation provides support for the Apache community of open-source software projects. The Apache projects are characterized by a collaborative, consensus based development process, an open and pragmatic software license, and a desire to create high quality software that leads the way in its field. We consider ourselves not simply a group of projects sharing a server, but rather a community of developers and users." Update: Sun executives have endorsed the project, and the company might even participate. found at www.informationweek.com
